Water reducing agent (also known as water reducer or plasticiser) is a construction additive used in silicate cement mortars and other cementitious materials to increase fluidity to the desired state, reduce the amount of water required and improve the compactness of the material. They are usually added to the mix during the batching process.
Water reducing agents work by dispersing cement particles more efficiently, reducing the surface tension of water, or a combination of the two mechanisms.
